Something Old, Something New...
The Story of Richmond's oldest bridal boutique
Sharon Townsend still remembers the bridal consultant who helped her select her wedding gown at Tiffanys Bridal 38 years ago.
“The store had so many beautiful gowns, it was difficult to choose just one,” said Townsend, who, in 2008, purchased Tiffanys with her friend and business partner Carolyn Simons. The duo then relocated the store to the Ridge Shopping Center on Parham Road just in time to celebrate the boutique’s 40th Anniversary. The new location’s spacious dressing rooms and elegant atmosphere gave Tiffanys a makeover that has transformed this “something old” into “something new.”
Since then, Simons and Townsend have traveled to Chicago annually to attend the National Bridal Market, the nation’s largest and longest-running bridal market. At the shows they purchase new gowns and acquire labels exclusive to Tiffanys in the Richmond area, ensuring that Tiffanys carries the best in bridal fashion. They have also travelled to Europe in pursuit of the best in bridal gowns and formal wear. They spent most of their time at Europe’s largest bridal market in Harrogate, UK, and then made a quick stop in Paris just to browse the latest fashions.
After travelling the world for bridal trends, Townsend’s main goal is to offer every bride the old-fashioned, personalized service she received at Tiffanys Bridal more than three decades ago. She said her consultants meet the needs of each unique bride, whether that means asking a designer to make changes to a gown or adding custom embellishments to a veil.
“I want all brides to recall their experience here with the same fondness that I do,” she said.
